Description

IN APRIL 1977 the publishing worlds of London and New York were startled by the appearance of David Irving’s Hitler’s War (Hodder & Stoughton, Ltd. and The Viking Press Inc.) It was unique among biographies in its method of describing a major historical event – World War Two through the eyes of one of the dictators himself. ‘What Hitler did not order, or did not learn, does not figure in this book,’ explains the author. ‘The narrative of events unfolds in the precise sequence that Hitler himself became involved in them.’ The first that the reader knows of a plot against Hitler’s life is when the army traitor Count von Stauffenberg’s bomb explodes beneath the table at the Führer’s headquarters. The investigation follows.

It is an unusual technique, but it works. The book sold thirty thousand copies in its first UK hardback edition and was often reprinted and translated after that. It became a recommended reference work at West Point, at Sandhurst, in military academies around the former Empire and in university libraries around the world, because it quoted diaries and documents that other famous historians had not troubled to find.

In 1991 Focal Point prepared a new edition, updated, revised and included The War Path, the author’s narrative of Hitler’s prewar years. This was a timely precaution, as Mr Irving’s other publishers were now coming under a systematic and orchestrated attack: In July 1992, on the day after he returned triumphantly from Moscow bringing the unpublished Goebbels diaries from former KGB archives, his main publisher, Macmillan Ltd., secretly ordered all remaining copies of their editions of his books burned. The Holocaust Educational Trust began a campaign to smash the windows of bookstores selling his books — Nottingham, Newcastle, and Norwich were among the first. Public Libraries were requested to pull his books from their shelves. Italian, French, Spanish, and Scandinavian publishers who had rights to translate the massive work were prevailed upon never to release it.

The Focal Point edition incorporated all the latest finds, including scores of illustrations, unknown colour photographs, the diaries of Hermann Göring and Hitler’s controversial doctor Morell; and, for the first time, dramatic colour photographs taken by Hitler’s film cameraman Walter Frentz. The 2002 Millennium edition was further updated with a sheaf of new evidence including the long-lost Gestapo interrogations staff — now in private American hands — of Rudolf Hess’s and SS and other documents intercepted by British codebreakers. Now in 2019, we are offering a new edition with even more unknown pictures, until November 30 at a special price.

Over 1,000 pages, with illustrations and photos

Learned so much factual history from reading this book. David Irving must be the leading expert on the Third Reich and Hitler. Having spoken personally to members of Hitler’s staff. Have been fascinated by this subject since I was a small boy and have always believed the victor’s history until learning about David Irving. Many may denigrate him, I will not. Shame we don’t have free speech in the UK so that this and other books would be more freely available to people interested in history

I just received my copy of Hitler’s War in the mail and I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed. Also, as an added bonus it looks like Mr. Irving has signed this copy. Thank you!

It’s now a great privilege to be one of the few people in the world who know what WW2 was really about and why it happened. But this should not be a priviledge. It should be common knowledge.
Hitler’s War is a meticulously researched volume down to the minutest detail (this shines through from beginning to end) but at the same time it reads like a novel. I found myself, often surprisingly, empathizing with the players. But this does not mean it is a biased account. Quite the opposite. Some of these often human characters had monstrous sides that David Irving also brought out, whenever there was solid evidence proving it or even partial evidence suggesting it. None were the one-dimensional characters portrayed by the dumbed-down media, ostensible education service and countless books by other authors.
In short, Hitler’s War is a real history book. That’s why it’s effectively banned. The Establishment does not want you to read it. But if you want to understand the 20th Century, Hitler’s War answers many of the key whats, whys and hows. Everyone born in the 20th Century owes it to himself to read it and discover how he’s been lied to most of his life. Young millennials with a historical bent will find it exciting and become empowered with the knowledge to change things.
    I avidly recommend Hitler’s War.

This book was truly an eye opening glimpse at the war from the very rooms and corridors of which the this dictator once tread , to the battlefields upon which his armies bleed. One of the most in depth and descriptive books I’ve ever had the pleasure to peruse.

Without a doubt, say what you will of the media, Mr. Irving has given us the quintessential biography for the ages of one of histories most dark and impacting figures. Well worth a read to any self respecting history lover.

I had the privilege to rent this book some years ago from my local library. An older copy without some of the fantastic recent updates, but nonetheless a delight to find. I have studied World War II since I was a boy, and within the first 28 pages of this book I had found more new and critical information than I could have found in an entire volume of LIFE books who’s political undertones make them a hard pill to swallow.

Suffice it to say this book is nothing less than a masterpiece of research and dedication to the field of history. David Irving will go down as one of the bravest and most distinguished historians in the history of WWII

Very informative and interesting. I learned all sorts of things to do with the war that are often overlooked, such as preparation (even hopes) for war ahead of the Munich Agreement; arrangements for war in Poland before September 1939; dealings with Franco’s Spain and Vichy France during the war; the failure of Operation Barbarossa in 1941; hopes for victory even in 1944; betrayal and treachery at high levels; etc.. The war, and Nazi Germany, cannot be fully understood without this book, in my opinion. I learned a lot from this book and I am glad that I read it.

A greater work I know not. One can tell Mr. Irving’s decades of research in this product produced. The use of original documents and the work involved doing observing them, I think few attempt. Mr. Irving’s dedication to his craft one will find rarely matched. After reading this work, I understand why real historians, like Mr. Irving, are censored. The victors write the history, and the historians, or anyone else that notices inconsistencies, or hypocrisy, must be censored by the winning establishment. If real historians were not censored, I opine we would solve timeless problems with war greatly reduced. Excellent work by Mr. Irving.

My entire experience with this book has been positive, I ordered my copy and had it delivered within a couple weeks. Hitlers war is a fabulous book, I immediately noticed how good the quality of the paper used was (which puts 99% of other books to shame) and how good the binding was. If I could describe the contents of the book in a couple words I would say “page-turner,” Hitlers decisions from the execution of Rohm, to his part in the Fritsch and Blomberg scandal, to his remilitarisation of the Rhineland reads like an action/adventure novel, I never thought I would read a book and be left with my heart racing and to think that this was a true story leaves me in awe.

The way Irving describes the unfolding events from Hitlers perspective really allows me to understand him a lot better, Hitler clearly was no mad-man intending to start a world war but a man who effectively performed geopolitical mircales without starting wars (atleast until 1939).

The story of Hitler really is incredible no matter if you like him or not and the way Irving shines the spotlight on the events that happened always draws me in, I never feel like I have to force myself to read the book.

If you’re interested in Nazi Germany or Hitler and his story I 100% recommend this book.

David Irving’s masterpiece. To read ‘Hitler’s War’ is to take on the ultimate learning experience in World History. The book is so expansive and shows Irving’s encyclopaedic knowledge which he shares in these pages. A truly mesmerising journey and one I will cherish and reread for decades to come.

David Irving is the finest chronicler of Third Reich history in the world. The first two volumes of Churchill’s War should be required reading for all British and Commonwealth history students. My three other favorites are ‘Hitler’s War, Goebbels, Mastermind of the Third Reich,’ and Uprising. When I read an Irving book, I have a hard time putting it down!

David Irving will go down as one of the greatest war historians of all time, despite the disparaging comments and attacks on him and his legacy. The tide is turning. Mr Irving’s ability to write in a way that put you right there amongst the Generals and Hitler at the Berghof of in the command bunkers is second to none. I found myself swept away in the emotions that were detailed in the book from the successes of 1939, through the betrayals and to the end. What a fantastic book. I’d also comment on the superior quality of the book binding, paper and image prints. This is how a book should be. Heirloom quality.

The research that went into this book is meticulous and thorough. Many myths surrounding the events and personalities perpetuated through the Western school system are laid to rest. This Book will become a requirement in our homeschool curriculum.

Very good and thoroughly researched book! Essential reading for anybody attempting to form an honest view of Hitler. I read this book after reading Mein Kamph, “Hitler Democrat” by Leon Degrelle, “Hitler” by Ernst Hanfstaengl and Irving’s “The War Path”. I’ll be reading some other good books by Irving and other authors to develop a better understanding of Hitler and Nazi Germany.

I want to thank Mr. Irving voor his dedication and determination for the truth, no matter what it has cost him! We need that kind of mentality! An iron backbone! His books will stand the past of time. I wish him a good health and all his efforts will not be for nothing in the end. Bit by bit i’m collection all his books!

Irving did 10 years of research and met hitlers staff. Going out and doing all the digging to see who Hitler was. In this book you will get the real story of what happened and what Hitler did and said and felt. The “hollywood hitler” isn’t present in this book. It’s the real Hitler. Amazing work by Irving. A real gem of a book. Enjoyed every chapter. 10/10
