The Night the Dams Burst by David Irving, 2026 edition cover

New 2026 edition · 126 pages

About the book

On the night of 16–17 May 1943 nineteen Lancasters of 617 Squadron flew at tree height across occupied Europe to breach the Möhne, Eder and Sorpe dams with a weapon that had never been used in anger. First published in 1973, The Night the Dams Burst reconstructs Operation Chastise from Barnes Wallis’s private papers and diaries, the Air Ministry’s own files, interviews with Bomber Command officers and aircrew, and the German civil-defence records of the flood that followed.

The 2026 edition has been re-set from the author’s text with the original photographs, the losses tables, notes and a new index. It reads in an evening and is a fair introduction to the way David Irving works: from the documents, on both sides of the line.

A few letters a month at most: new editions, source documents from the archive, and the occasional offer. Every letter carries an unsubscribe link, and leaving the list does not take the book back.
