Churchill's War, Volume III: The Sundered Dream is the planned concluding volume of David Irving's three-volume life of Winston Churchill. It is listed as a preorder. This guide says where the edition stands, what the volume is intended to cover, how the preorder works, and where to begin if you are new to the series. It is kept in step with the product page, which carries the same status.
Publication update
4 September 2026. Editing and source-reference work are ongoing. The team is combining three manuscript versions and checking their references. We hope to publish by the end of 2026. This is an estimate; no publication or dispatch date is guaranteed.
The volume was close to publication when David became unwell. The work since then has been editorial: reconciling the three manuscript versions and verifying their source references against the documents, so that the finished book meets the standard of the first two volumes. Further updates will be posted here and on the product page.
What the volume is planned to cover
Volume I: The Struggle for Power covers Churchill's early career and the first years of the war, from Gallipoli and the Chanak crisis to the defeat of France and the campaign in Greece. Volume II: Triumph in Adversity covers the middle years of the war. Volume III is intended to continue the series through Churchill's later wartime years and the immediate post-war period.
Final text, source references and edition details remain in preparation. Until the text is settled we are not describing the contents in more detail, and we would rather say less now than correct it later.
How the preorder works
A preorder reserves a copy of the forthcoming hardcover. It does not give access to a manuscript or to a book that is ready to dispatch.
- Unless checkout says otherwise, payment is taken when you place the preorder.
- You may request cancellation and a refund at any time before fulfilment begins.
- Once printing, packing or dispatch begins, the normal returns process applies.
The preorder terms and the returns and refunds policy are linked from the product page.
Where to begin with the series
Churchill's War is a documentary reconstruction, built from private papers, Cabinet minutes, signals and interviews on the same method as Hitler's War. If you are new to it, start with Volume I: The Struggle for Power, continue with Volume II: Triumph in Adversity, and reserve Volume III to complete the set. The reading order guide places the series within the wider catalogue.
