The War Between the Generals follows the commanders charged with invading and liberating Nazi-occupied Europe, and the personal and strategic conflicts that divided them while the campaign unfolded.
At the centre was Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, trying to hold the alliance together. Around him were Bernard Montgomery, George Patton, Omar Bradley and the senior air commanders, each competing for authority, resources and influence.
Drawing on private correspondence, wartime diaries and command records, David Irving reconstructs the campaign from inside Allied headquarters and examines how personality, ambition and national interest affected decisions in the field.
