This documentary volume presents the German Forschungsamt's secret-intelligence file on events leading to the Second World War. The Forschungsamt was the clandestine signals-intelligence agency that tapped telephones, broke diplomatic codes and supplied intercepted communications to the German leadership.

David Irving edited and translated the surviving German material; Professor D. C. Watt supplied the introduction. The attribution distinguishes the originating documents from Irving's editorial and translation work.

The volume reconstructs an organisation whose headquarters and records were largely destroyed at the end of the war, preserving reports on international, political and economic affairs that might otherwise have disappeared.
