Historical Material Policy ->This restored facsimile brings the original 1936 German Organisationsbuch der NSDAP into a burgundy hardback edition with silver-foil decoration. For historical collections, it preserves the original page images, typography, pagination and sequence, including organisational charts and illustrated standards for flags, emblems, uniforms and rank insignia.
Alongside its organisational charts, the handbook records the clothing and equipment of the Nazi Party and its affiliated organisations. The original German captions identify uniform details and variations, allowing the plates to be examined as historical reference material.
The collar insignia chart below sets out distinctions within the party’s national leadership. Colour, borders, embroidered devices and bars form a visual hierarchy, with the original German labels beside each example. It is one of the handbook’s many illustrated standards for identifying organisations, offices and ranks.
Read through a design-history lens, parts of the book function much like a brand-guidelines manual: a coordinated visual identity applied across clothing, flags, emblems and other materials. For graphic designers, typographers and design historians, its lettering, page layouts, charts and colour plates provide a primary source for studying identity systems and information hierarchy.
Its scope extends beyond branding into organisation, duties and political doctrine. The visual standards also support critical study of design’s role in propaganda: how consistency, repetition and symbols were used to project authority and belonging within a dictatorship.
The interior was restored from high-resolution page images of the 1936 edition, made available by Internet Archive with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum credited as contributor. Digital restoration reduced paper discolouration, isolated spots and scan-edge shadows, while retaining the printed text and illustrations. Some original printing irregularities and source blemishes remain.
The planned binding is a burgundy matt printed hardback with silver-foil front decoration and spine lettering. The front follows the scanned original cover. The covering is printed paper over boards.
This primary source contains original Nazi symbols and period language, including offensive and antisemitic material. It is offered for research, education and documentary reference under the Irving Books Historical Material Policy; publication does not imply endorsement of its ideology.
